Queerly Beloved – Worship Service

This past weekend was intended to be jam-packed full of Pride Events in Durham, NC. Hurricane Ophelia had other plans. Out of an abundance of caution, the LGBTQ Center of Durham board and staff leadership made the difficult call to cancel Pride: Durham, NC 2023 due to uncertainty in weather conditions that could affect folks’ safety. While disappointing, there were several concurrent activities planned for the weekend. One of which was the Queerly Beloved Worship Service.

Not without it’s own surprises (a water main break at Duke Memorial UMC on Sunday morning made for a quick change to Trinity UMC in downtown Durham), the Queerly Beloved Worship Service was held in full force. Organized by Durham Queer Methodists and their community of UMC churches, clergy, staff, and congregants, the Queerly Beloved worship service not only opened the doors with affirming language, but brought each and every person to the table, where a chair was in place for everyone, to share in a meaningful worship service. Words, actions, community, intentionality, love, and confidence abound at the service.

The Wesley Bros even made an appearance:

Thank you to all who organized this event and for making it prominent in my local community!

Love and peace,
