Charlie is honored to be giving a workshop at the Reconciling Ministries Network Convocation, which will be held in Charlotte, NC on 13 – 15 October, 2023.

The workshop, on Saturday, 14 October at 2:15 PM, is titled Incompatible: Using Comics to Explore the History of Harm and a Wesleyan Theology of Inclusion. The workshop will include the following topics:

  • The history of the 1972 General Conference where United Methodism designated homosexuality as “incompatible with Christian teaching”
  • The placement of that moment within the broader history of Christian teaching and Western psychological beliefs around homosexuality
  • A Wesleyan theology exploring the necessity for full queer inclusion in the Church

Based on the graphic novel Incompatible: How the Church Cast Out LGBTQ Christians & Where We Go Next, the workshop will open space for healthier conversations at home and in the church around issues of faith and sexuality.

Charlie will also have a booth at the convocation where you can purchase Incompatible. He hopes to make a few appearances at the booth where he would love to meet you and offer a signing of your book!

Reconciling Ministries Network “celebrates that LGBTQ+ persons are a good expression of God’s diverse creation and exists to advocate for the affirmation of all of God’s children in the Church and the world.” Their mission is simple: intersectional justice across and beyond the United Methodist connection, working for the full participation of all LGBTQ+ people throughout the life and leadership of the Church.
